Tin Plating
From WikiDent
Tin plating is used to increase bond strength of resin cements to metal. It is often used in the retention of Resin Bonded Bridges (RBB or Maryland Bridge).
Tin plating results in the precipitation of tin crystals, which also aids to increase the surface roughness. The technique takes advantage of tin's ability to form durable organic bonds with some adhesive resin cements containing phosphate-methacrylate resin (PMR).
Panavia F (Kuraray Dental) uses a PMR called 10-MDP to take advantage of bonds to metal such as Tin. Alloy Bond (Kuraray Dental) is a thione-phosphate dual functional primer; 10-MDP is used for bonding to base metal and VBATDT is used for bonding to precious metal.
