Zinc Oxide-Eugenol, or ZOE, is a dental material that may used for cement, restoration or impression.

Composition

As the name implies, ZOE is composed of two parts: Zinc oxide and Eugenol. The reaction is an acid-base reaction that gives off water as a by product. Sometimes clove oil will be substituted for pure eugenol as it is less irritating.
